Modifying the CW AGC of a Kenwood TS-130V
The AGC of a Kenwood TS-130V becomes nervous when the receiver is switched to CW mode. The reason is its short time constant. Here's a mod that makes listening to CW more comfortable.
Parts required for the mod:
- Resistor, 15 kΩ, low power (1/4 or 1/8 watt)
- Capacitor, 0.33 µF, small ceramic (voltage not critical)
Procedure:
-
Open the TS-130V completely.
-
Locate the IF board on the bottom side.

-
Find connector "33" near the transceiver's rear panel.
-
Locate pin 4 (red wire, labeled "AGC") and pin 5 (brown wire, labeled "RFG").

-
CAREFULLY strip a small piece of insulation from both wires.
-
Solder the 15 kΩ resistor and the 0.33 µF capacitor in series between the two wires.

Insulate the whole assembly with electrical tape.
